Gaba is a non-profit based initiative with a goal to alleviate food insecurity while reducing food waste in in Uganda.
Our goal is to bridge the gap by providing an avenue for people to access food while relying on the Ubuntu concept that still exists in the African people’s psyche.
I am because we are.This is a digital food bank that leverages on technology by connecting people with excess food to the people in need.
The application allows people (The Givers) to post food items they might have in excess (matooke, rice, irish potatoes, cereals, etc).
A person in need (The Recipient) will – anonymously if they wish - select items posted on the platform that we deliver to them at their cost.
Our hope is that these efforts will contribute towards ending hunger in Africa.Through this platform, we also hope to rekindle the African spirit of community-based living.
Our observations suggest that urban centers have lost their sense of community thereby losing its added benefits especially maintaining security.
This application provides an avenue for people to create communities where they share excess food among themselves – whether as neighbours, friends or family.
Users can also create groups where they send and receive food among themselves - whether as family or friends.
Further entrenching family and friendship bondsLet us end hunger.
